Busada CAB (butyrate) tubing was used in hydroponic research at Penn State University and the University of Georgia horticulture departments.

Here the tubing was colored on the inside (blue to reflect 430-525nm) to limit growth of algae. A simple aquarium pump oxygenated the nutrient solutions while research was carried out on nitrogen ratios in full or single root hydroponic cultures.

CAB was especially suited for this research due to its resistance to long-term nitrate and ammoniacal nitrogen. The research focused upon peak periods of nutrient uptake in snap-bean growth and development.
